Arthur is pleased to be part of the Pet Food Manufacturers Association’s current efforts to improve pet food safety. The Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association (PFMA) is in the final stages of completing a brand-new, world-leading certification scheme for commercial raw producers.
The PFMA’s focus, however, is not on the manufacturers of dry food but on the development of a certification scheme for the producers of raw pet food, often cited as being more of a safety concern than kibble because of its raw nature.
Once finalised, the scheme will be the ‘Gold Standard’ for raw pet food manufacturers, covering areas such as basic compliance with the regulations to best practices in sourcing and handling materials, in production, plant design and maintenance, personnel and training and finally in testing, traceability and recalls. Compliance will be assessed by independent auditors.
Remember to handle raw food appropriately, whether it’s for your dog or your Sunday lunch. For more information, please visit our page on how to feed raw.
